Website Hits

Build it and they will come, they said! This phrase isn’t strictly true when it comes to building websites. Many people are under the impression that selling online is easy once they have a website, but the truth is, there is a lot of work to be done if you want genuine website hits which lead to sales. Attracting the right audience is down to:

  • The Name of Your Business
  • Your Domain Name
  • Content on Your Website
  • & of course… SEO

Other beneficial factors include video, backlinks, social media, site speed, mobile friendliness, SSL certificate, user experience and many more.

The Name of Your Business

I like to encourage my clients to keep it simple when choosing a name for their business. It can usually take up a lot of time and getting it wrong could cost you a lot of money.  Don’t be tempted to be too clever or choose a name that is hard to spell; you don’t want potential clients getting confused about how to find your business on and offline.

Your Domain Name

Usually when purchasing a domain name, business owners buy a brand new one. But, not many people know that you can purchase an expired domain. With an expired domain, you can leverage its existing SEO value to start ranking quicker. There are thousands of domain names that expire everyday. The reasons are different, some owners forget to renew the domains and some just don’t want them anymore, so, think about this option when you are purchasing a domain name in the future and remember… keep it simple.

Content on Your Website

Content on your site is so important, Not only do you have to make sure that its written and spelt correctly but you also need a Title and a minimum of 300 words on each page for Google to take you seriously, sounds a lot right? That’s why I will always encourage you to work with a copywriter. Take one page at a time and focus on the quality of content.
Your titles on each page are extremely important, if you learn how to create perfect titles, you can dominate content marketing better than your competitors, titles are know as h1 tags and not many business owners know how to use them to their advantage. The title or H1 tag should describe the topic of your page, whilst using your keywords. Usually, the Title (h1 tag) gives the reader a strong sense of what he or she is going to read. Don’t be tempted to write:
‘Welcome to My [insert business name]’
This isn’t going to get you any Google points. Instead write something like
‘London’s Leading [insert industry] bringing you the very best in [Keyword]’

SEO

SEO involves making changes to your website design and content to make your site more attractive to search engines such as Google. For example; using keywords in your website content throughout the site will help search engines understand where to place your website in the rankings. SEO helps you get found by prospective clients.
There are 3 main factors to consider on each page of your website, which is your title, your URL and your page description.

Here is an example using the key phrase ‘Hotels in London’ This is the top spot on Google (lets also bear in mind that trip advisor has thousands of pages)

Look at how many times they have managed to use the keywords. You want to do the same with each of your website pages. If you are not sure on how to do this you can work with a marketing/SEO company or even a very skilled copywriter. If you want to give it a crack yourself you will find a ton of information on Moz.com or https://exposureninja.com/
If you need help with any of the above content marketing ideas I’d be happy to help. Leave your comments and questions in the comment box below and I’ll get back to you. I hope just one of these ideas have helped you be more visible on the web.
